- Every year 24 Jan is celebrated as National Girl Child Day in India. Celebrating this day was started for the first time in the year 2009 by the Ministry of Women & Child Development.
- Organized programs like Save the Girl Child campaign, child sex ratio, & promotion of a healthy & safe environment for girls are organized on this day.
- The theme of “Girl Child Day” 2021 was Digital Generation, Our Generation’. The theme of Girl’s Day in the year 2020, was ‘My voice, our shared future’. This year the theme of Girl Child’s Day 2022 has not been announced yet.
- There is a special reason for celebrating 24 Jan every year as Girl Child Day, on this day in the year 1966 Indira Gandhi was sworn in as the first woman Prime Minister of the country, due to which 24 Jan is the day of women empowerment in history of India.
