4 percent increase in Dearness Allowance for central government employees and pensioners

The Central government has approved a four percent increase in Dearness Allowance for central government employees and pensioners, bringing the total to 42 per cent of the Basic Pay.

  • This move will benefit over 47 lakh central government employees and more than 69 lakh pensioners.
  • The decision was announced by Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur after a Cabinet meeting in New Delhi on 24th March 2023.
  • The increase in Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief will result in a combined impact of over 12 thousand 815 crore rupees per annum on the exchequer.
  • The decision is in line with the accepted formula based on the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission.
