Sixteen-year-old Aditya Mittal has become India’s 77th Chess Grandmaster during an ongoing tournament in Spain.
The Mumbai player, who had achieved three GM benchmarks, crossed the 2,500 Elo mark during the 6th round of the ongoing Alobregat Open tournament in Spain.
He drew a game against Spain’s No. 1 Francisco Vallejo Ponce to achieve this feat.
To become a GM, a player has to secure three GM norms and cross the live rating of 2,500 ELO points.
Mittal achieved his first GM norm at Serbia Masters 2021. After this, he achieved his second GM norm at the Allobreget Open 2021. The teen achieved his third GM norm at the Serbia Masters 2022.
