Asia’s oldest football tournament – Durand Cup starts from 16th August

Asia’s oldest football tournament- Durand Cup has started its 131st edition in Kolkata on 16th August and Durand Cup was inaugurated on 18th August in Imphal.
The opening match in Imphal was played between Neroca FC and TRAI FC and both are football teams from Manipur.
The state government has already made necessary arrangements for the historic football event.
The former Foreign Secretary of British India, Mortimer Durand, established the Durand Cup in 1888.
The Durand Cup was initially played only by the armed services but in later years, the game was officially opened to professional football clubs.
