Australia’s newly elected Labor Party leader Anthony Albanese became new prime minister on 23rd May

Labour Party leader Anthony Albanese was on 23rd May 2022, sworn in as Australia’s new Prime Minister. He was sworn in with 4 key Cabinet members, including new Foreign Minister Penny Wong. Richard Marles is new Deputy Prime Minister & Employment Minister, Jim Chalmers is Treasurer, Katy Gallagher is Attorney General & Finance Minister.

PM Anthony Albanese’s centre-left Labour Party ousted predecessor Scott Morrison’s conservative coalition on 21st May election. The coalition had been in power under 3 Prime Ministers for 9 years. It is Australia’s 1st Labour Government in almost a decade.
