Agriculture Minister launched PM Kisan Mobile App with Face Authentication feature for e-KYC.

  • Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar launched the PM Kisan mobile app with face authentication feature on 22nd June.
  • By using face authentication feature from this app, farmer can complete e-KYC remotely, sitting at home easily by scanning face without OTP or fingerprint and can also help 100 other farmers to do e-KYC at their home.
  • Recognizing the need to make e-KYC mandatory, the Government of India has extended the ability of farmers to perform e-KYC to officers of state governments, so that each officer can complete the e-KYC process for 500 farmers.

PM Kisan :

PM Kisan is one of the world’s largest DBT schemes in which farmers will get Rs 6,000 in Aadhaar card linked bank accounts. The annual amount is transferred directly in three instalments. 2.42 lakh crore has been shifted to the accounts of more than 11 crore farmers, of whom more than 3 crore are women.

  • Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on 22nd June unveiled the first ticket for the first race of the world’s fastest motorbike race ‘Moto GP’ 2023.
  • Moto GP is the biggest, fastest and oldest bike racing competition in the world.
  • India will host the ‘Moto GP’ for the first time from 22nd to 24th September at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
  • The run will provide employment to around 5000 people in the state and is expected to generate revenue of around Rs 1000 crore.

American company GE Aerospace signed MoU with HAL to manufacture fighter jet engines for the Indian Air Force.

  • American aerospace major, GE Aerospace has signed an MoU with Indian aerospace company Hindustan Aeronautics Limited to manufacture fighter jet engines for the Indian Air Force. This big decision has come at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on an official tour of America.
  • As per the agreement, GE Aerospace’s F414 engine will be co-produced in the country to power the Mk2 Light Combat Aircraft of the Indian Air Force.
  • According to GE Aerospace, eight F414 engines have been delivered as part of the ongoing development program for the LCA Mk2.
  • In addition, GE will continue to collaborate with the Indian government on the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft Mk2 engine program.

US chip giant Micron will set up a semiconductor assembly and testing plant in Gujarat with a total investment of $2.75 billion.

  • US chip maker Micron will invest $825 million to build a chip assembly and testing facility in Gujarat. The combined investment by Macron and the Central and Gujarat governments will be $2.75 billion.
  • Phased construction of the new assembly and test facility in Gujarat is expected to begin this year.
  • Phase 1, which will include five million square feet of planned cleanroom space, will become operational in late 2024, and Micron will gradually increase capacity over time in line with global demand trends.
  • The move will create 5,000 new direct Micron jobs and 15,000 community jobs over the next several years. Micron will receive 50% financial assistance from the Government of India towards the total project cost and 20% incentive from the Government of Gujarat towards the total project cost.

History :

  • Karnataka was ruled by Nanda, Maurya and Satavahana kings. After that, the Kadambas and Gangas of Banavasi had the authority.
  • The huge statue of Gomateshwara (Shravanbelgola) was made by Chamundaraya. Pulakeshin II ruled from Narmada to Kaveri. The Chalukyas built various temples.
  • Kannada literature flourished during this period. The Chalukya kings of Kalyani and their later Hoysala chieftains of Halebid built beautiful temples and encouraged literature and fine arts.
  • The Bahmani Sultans and the Adilshahs of Bijapur built grand buildings in the Indo-Saracenic style. With the arrival of the Portuguese, cultivation of tobacco, maize, chili, groundnut, potato, etc. started in the state.
  • After the defeat of Tipu Sullan (1799) and Peshwa (1818), Karnataka came under British rule.
  • After independence, the state of Mysore was formed in the year 1953 and various areas with a majority of Kannada speakers were integrated. In the year 1973, its name was changed to Karnataka.

  • The event was organized to mark the 9th annual International Day of Yoga.
  • Since 2015, the world celebrates International Yoga Day every year on 21st June, after the United Nations General Assembly declared the day in 2014.
  • The largest number of nationalities participated in the yoga session held at the United Nations Headquarters this year, setting a Guinness World Record.
  • People from 135 nationalities participated in the yoga session on 21st June, breaking the previous record of 114 nationalities set by the Indian Embassy in Qatar.

North India’s first Skin Bank was inaugurated at Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi.

  • North India’s first Skin Bank has been inaugurated at Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi on 20th June.
  • It is a bank where deceased donors can donate their skin which will be helpful in the treatment of burns. Skin can be donated within six hours of death and after processing can be used for burn and trauma patients.
  • 7-10 million people suffer burn injuries in India every year, making it the second most common cause of injury after road accidents.
  • Patients with skin infections, skin cancer treatments such as Mohs surgery, skin ulcers, and slow-healing or large wounds may benefit from skin grafting.
  • There are 16 skin banks in the country – a facility where skin from dead persons can be donated – seven in Maharashtra, four in Chennai, three in Karnataka and one each in Madhya Pradesh and Odisha.

China has blocked the proposal to declare 26/11 attack accused Sajid Mir as a global terrorist.

  • On 20th June, China blocked at the United Nations a proposal to designate Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Sajid Mir, wanted for his involvement in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, as a global terrorist.
  • Beijing blocked the proposal that was moved by the US and India to blacklist Mir as a global terrorist under the 1267 Al Qaeda Sanctions Committee of the United Nations Security Council. The proposal also provides for confiscation of their assets, travel ban and arms embargo.
  • In September 2022, China blocked the proposal to nominate Mir in the UN.
  • Mir is one of India’s most wanted terrorists and the US has put a $5 million bounty on his head for his role in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. Mir was sentenced in June by an anti-terrorism court in Pakistan to more than 15 years in prison in a terror-financing case.
