Satwik-Chirag pair won gold medal in Badminton Asia Championship.

  • Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty on 30 April created history by becoming the first Indian men’s doubles pair to win a gold medal at the Badminton Asia Championships.
  • Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated the eighth seeded Malaysian pair of Ong Yew Sin and Teo Yee 16-21, 21-17, 21-19 in 67 minutes in the final played.
  • The previous best performance by an Indian men’s doubles pair in a continental event was in 1971 by Dipu Ghosh and Raman Ghosh who won a bronze medal.
  • Overall, this is India’s second gold medal in the event. Dinesh Khanna won the men’s singles gold in Lucknow in 1965 by defeating Thailand’s Sangob Ratnusorn.

Sharjah Stadium stand named after Sachin Tendulkar on his 50th birthday.

  • An iconic Sharjah Cricket Stadium stand has been renamed after Sachin Tendulkar at a special ceremony in the United Arab Emirates to honor the Indian cricket legend on his 50th birthday on 24th April.
  • The West Stand at the iconic stadium has been renamed as ‘Sachin Tendulkar Stand’.
  • The Master Blaster has fond memories of this stadium. Exactly 25 years before the stand was renamed, Tendulkar had created a ‘Desert Storm’ at this stadium by scoring two consecutive centuries against Australia in the 1998 Coca-Cola Cup.
  • This stadium is special for Sachin Tendulkar in another way. Of the record 49 centuries he has scored around the world, seven of them have been scored at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
  • Apart from Sharjah, the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) has named its gates after legendary batsmen Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara, which are used to enter the playing field.

Indian men’s recurve archery team reached the final of the Archery World Cup 2023

Indian men’s recurve archery team comprising Atanu Das, B Dhiraj, and Tarundeep Rai have reached the final of the Archery World Cup 2023 Stage 1 in Antalya, Turkey, and are set to face China in the gold medal match on 23 April 2023.

This is the first time in nine years that an Indian men’s recurve archery team has made it to a World Cup final.

The Indian team defeated Japan, Chinese Taipei, and Netherlands in their previous matches to reach the final.

The Netherlands will compete against Slovenia for the bronze medal.

Eighteen-year-old Nitya won the gold medal in the SH6 category by defeating Peru’s Giuliana Poveda Flores 22-20 21-11 in the women’s singles final.

She also won the gold medal in mixed doubles of the same category. Competitors with short stature take part in the ‘SH6 Category’.

With Sehrawat’s victory, India’s medal tally in the tournament rose to 13, with four medals won by Greco-Roman wrestlers and seven medals won by women’s wrestlers.

Indian Women wrestlers bag seven medals to finish third at Asian Wrestling Championship in Kazakhstan

Indian women wrestlers have achieved a remarkable feat by winning a total of seven medals at the Asian Wrestling Championships held in Astana, Kazakhstan from 9 to 14 April 2013. Out of these, two medals were silver and five were bronze. This achievement has led to India securing the third position in the Women’s Teams Ranking.

Antim Panghal and Nisha Dahiya were the two Indian wrestlers who won silver medals in their respective weight categories of 53-kg and 68-kg. Anshu Malik, Sonam Malik, Manisha, and Reetika were the other Indian wrestlers who claimed bronze medals at the event.

In the previous edition of the championships, India had won five medals and finished in fourth place. However, this time around, the Indian women’s wrestling team has surpassed their previous performance and exceeded expectations.
