The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) on 14 March 2023 conducted two consecutive successful flight tests of the Very Short Range Air Defense System (VSHORADS) missile at the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur off the coast of Odisha.
It has been indigenously designed and developed by Research Center Imarat, Hyderabad in collaboration with other DRDO laboratories and Indian industry partners.
Flight tests were conducted from ground-based man portable launchers against high-speed unmanned aerial targets, simulating aircraft approaching and retreating. The targets were successfully intercepted completing all mission objectives.
VSHORADS is a Man Portable Air Defense System (MANPAD) for neutralizing low altitude aerial threats at short ranges.
