The Election Commission of India announced the schedule for the election of the 16th President of India. Announcing the election schedule in New Delhi on 9th June 2022, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said, “Voting will be held on 18th July. The notification for the election will be issued on 15th June and the last date for filing nominations will be 29th June. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on 30th June. Counting will be done on 21st July. President Ram Nath Kovind’s term ends on 24th july.
The President is elected by an electoral college comprising elected members of Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha & State Legislative Assemblies. It also includes Legislative Assemblies of Delhi & Puducherry.
