- The reigning youth world boxing champions Alfia Pathan & Geetika have won gold medals at the Elorda Cup in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan on 4th July.
- Two other Indian women boxers : Kalaivani Srinivasan & Jamuna Boro signed on with silver medals.
- In the women’s 81 kg final, Alfia defeated 2016 world champion and title contender Lazzat Kungeibayeva 5–0.
Geetika registered a thrilling 4-1 win over compatriot Kalaivani in the All India Women’s 48kg final. - With 2 gold, 2 silver & 10 bronze medals on the final day, the 33-member Indian contingent ended its campaign with a total of 14 medals.
- It was also the 1st senior international competition for both youngsters, Alfia & Geetika. Top players from countries like India, Uzbekistan & hosts Kazakhstan, Cuba, China & Mongolia participated in the tournament.
