Geetanjali Shree’s (Hindi author) novel Ret Samadhi “Tomb of Sand” has won the International Booker prize on 26th May 2022, becoming the 1st novel translated from Hindi to do so.
Gitanjali Shree is not only the 1st Hindi winner of the award, but it is also the 1st time that a book originally written in an Indian language has won the Booker Prize.

Tomb of Sand is the story of an 80-year-old woman who falls into a deep depression after the death of her husband, then resurfaces to find a new lease on life. The woman travels to Pakistan to confront the unresolved trauma of her teenage experiences of Partition, and reevaluate what it means to be a mother, a daughter, a woman & a feminist.
