On 17th May 2022, The government has announced some relaxation in its order issued on May 13 on banning wheat exports by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) of the Department of Commerce. It has been decided that wherever consignments of wheat have been handed over to the Customs Department for examination and which have been registered in their system on or before 13.05.2022 will be allowed to be exported.
The government also allowed a consignment of wheat headed to Egypt which was already under loading at Kandla port. This was followed by a request by the Egyptian government to allow the wheat cargo being loaded at Kandla port. The company attached for export of wheat to Egypt is M/s Mera International India Pvt. Ltd. had also made representations to complete the loading of 61,500 MT of wheat of which 44,340 MT of wheat had already been loaded and only 17,160 MT of wheat was yet to be loaded. The government decided to allow the full consignment of 61,500 MT of wheat and allowed it to be shipped from Kandla to Egypt.
