Health Minister launched 384 medicines under the National List of Essential Medicines.

  • Government has released 384 medicines under the National List of Essential Medicines (NLEM).
  • Dr. Mandaviya said that NLEM plays a vital role in ensuring access to affordable quality medicines at all levels of healthcare. These drugs will improve the quality of health care.
  • He elaborated that the list has been prepared after extensive consultation with the stakeholders. He said that the National Pharma Pricing Authority will now fix and regulate the price of these medicines so that affordable medicines are available to the people.
  • NLEM 2022 covers 384 drugs as compared to 376 in NLEM, 2015. The drugs are now classified into 27 therapeutic categories. A new section has been added for drugs considered essential for the adjuvant management of COVID-19.
