National Mission for Clean Ganga in collaboration with Naula Foundation organized Himalaya Diwas on 9th September. Himalaya Diwas is celebrated with an aim to preserve the Himalayan ecosystem and region. The day is celebrated to mark the importance of the Himalayas.
The theme of 2022 is ‘Himalayas will be safe only when the interests of its residents are protected.
In 2015, 9th September was officially declared as Himalaya Diwas by the then Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. The Himalayas play an important role in saving & maintaining nature and protecting the country from adverse weather conditions.
Himalaya Diwas is observed highlighting that there is an urgent need to develop eco-sensitive hill town plans & designs. The Himalayas are a source of strength and a valuable heritage for the whole world. The hill cities of the Himalayas face many challenges due to poor building planning and design, poor infrastructure like toads, water supply, sewage etc. and unprecedented felling of trees.
