  • The attackers used explosives to break into the capital’s Hyatt Hotel late on 19th August, then violently controlled and held guests hostage overnight.
  • During the night of 19th August & 20th August, fighting between al-Shabaab fighters and security forces destroyed much of the hotel.
  • India has strongly condemned the attack on the Hyatt Hotel in Mogadishu and expressed its heartfelt condolences to the victims and families of this cowardly act of terrorism. Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi said, India stands with the government and people of Somalia in the fight against terrorism.
