India & Bangladesh have agreed to enhance energy connectivity, cooperation in railways

  • India & Bangladesh have agreed to enhance sub-regional connectivity in the energy sector by connecting the power grids of both the countries.
  • In a joint statement issued during the visit of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the two countries agreed to expedite the proposed high-capacity 765 kV transmission line from Katihar in Bihar to Bornagar in Assam via Parbatipur in Bangladesh.
  • On the issue of Bangladesh’s energy requirements, the two leaders reviewed the progress made on the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline Project (IBFPP) connecting Siliguri in West Bengal and Parbatipur in Bangladesh’s Dinajpur district.
  • India and Bangladesh expressed hope that the project would be completed at the earliest.
