India has emerged as the world’s largest producer and second largest exporter of sugar.
In the sugar season 2021-22, more than five thousand lakh metric tonnes of sugarcane was produced in the country.
Out of this 35 lakh metric tonnes of sugar was produced in ethanol production and 359 lakh metric tonnes of sugar was produced by sugar mills.
This season has proved to be a watershed season for the Indian sugar sector. Record highest sugar export of over 109 lakh metric tonnes has been recorded.
