Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Dr L Murugan has recently said that India ranks third in the world in terms of fish production.
India is the world’s third largest fish producer and second largest aquaculture country after China.
Making a special mention of Karnataka, the Union Minister said that Rs 734.77 crore was allocated to the state under the flagship scheme of Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMSY) from 2020-21 till date for infrastructure development.
Under PMMSY, over Rs 53 crore was given for completion of Phase III expansion of Mangalore Fishing Harbour, Phase II of Gangoli Fishing Harbour, Alvekodi and Thenginagundi Fish Landing Centres.
