Indian Army deploys woman officer for the first time in battlefield Siachen.

  • Captain Shiva Chauhan has become the first woman Army officer to be actively deployed on the Siachen Glacier, the world’s highest battlefield.
  • Captain Shiva Chauhan underwent rigorous training at the Siachen Battle School, where he trained alongside officers and jawans of the Indian Army.
  • The training included ice wall climbing, avalanche and avalanche rescue and survival drills. Captain Shiv Chauhan had joined the Siachen Glacier on 2 January 2023 after an arduous climb.
  • Captain Shiva Chauhan of Rajasthan is a Bengal Sapper officer.
  • The Siachen Glacier is the highest battlefield on earth, where the 1984 war between India and Pakistan took place.
