Indian Grandmaster Arjun Arigasi defeated World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen of the chess tournament.

  • 19-year-old Indian Grandmaster Arjun Arigasi defeated five-time world chess champion Magnus Carlsen in the opening round of the Amches Rapid online chess tournament on 16 October.
  • This is Arigasse’s first win over Norwegian Carlsen. Arigasi had previously lost to Carlsen in the Julius Baer Generation Cup final in September.
  • Arigasi had started the tournament after losing to compatriot Vidit Santosh Gujrathi and are currently in fifth place after eight rounds.
  • Another Indian, D Gukesh, is at the sixth spot with 12 points after mixed luck on the second day of the prelims.
