Indian-origin Leo Varadkar has been elected as the Prime Minister of Ireland for the 2nd time.
Varadkar took over as prime minister under a power-sharing arrangement with the country’s centrist coalition government.
Parliamentarians approved Varadkar’s nomination as Prime Minister in place of Michael Martin in a special session of the Dáil, Ireland’s lower house.
Varadkar’s appointment was confirmed after approval from the office of Irish President D. Higgins. In his first term, Leo Varadkar was the Prime Minister of Ireland from 2017 to 2020.
