The Indian Parliament has passed the Finance Bill 2023 on 27 March 2023 for the upcoming fiscal year, with the Lok Sabha approving it last week and the Rajya Sabha returning it amid protests by opposition parties.
The Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, moved the Bill in the Rajya Sabha, where members from Congress and Aam Aadmi Party demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the Adani Group issue, causing disruptions. Despite the ruckus, the Upper House took up the Bill and returned it to the Lok Sabha with one amendment. Later, the Lok Sabha accepted the amendment with a voice vote. The Rajya Sabha also returned the Appropriation Bills 2023 and Jammu and Kashmir Appropriation Bills 2023 to the Lok Sabha with a voice vote without discussion.
