INS Mormugao, a P15B stealth-guided missile destroyer, commissioned into Indian Navy.

  • Indian Naval Ship (INS) Mormugao (D67), the second stealth guided-missile destroyer P15B class warship, was commissioned at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on 18th December 2022 in the presence of Defense Minister Shri Rajnath Singh.
  • The 2nd of the four ‘Visakhapatnam’ class destroyers indigenously designed by the Indian Navy’s Institutional Organization Warship Design Bureau and built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), Mumbai was formally commissioned during the ceremony.
  • The Defense Minister in his address described INS Mormugao as one of the most powerful indigenously built warships which will significantly enhance the country’s maritime capabilities and safeguard national interests.
  • Shri Rajnath Singh commended the Indian Navy and MDL for commissioning INS Mormugao and termed it as the result of hard work, dedication and aspirations of engineers, technicians, designers and scientists.
  • He said that with over 75% indigenous content, it is a shining example of India’s excellence in warship design and development and our growing indigenous defense production capabilities. This warship will meet the present and future requirements of our country as well as our friendly countries across the globe.
  • He said that India is one of the fastest growing economies today and the country will be among the top 3 fastest growing economies by 2027.
