International Day of Epidemic Preparedness 2022 : 27th December

The International Day of Epidemic Preparedness is observed on 27th December all over the world to mark the pandemic preparedness. The day aims to facilitate exchange of information, dissemination of scientific knowledge and ensure exchange of best practices internationally.

History :

On December 7, 2020, In its 75th session and 36th plenary meeting, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) passed a resolution, which declared 27th December as the International Day for Pandemic Preparedness. The declaration recognized the “devastating effects of major infectious diseases and pandemics,” especially the current COVID-19 pandemic, on people’s lives and the long-term damage to social and economic development.
