International Museum Day is celebrated each year on 18th May. The day is celebrated to highlight the importance of museums in any culture. Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, promotion of cultures & development of mutual understanding, cooperation & peace between peoples.

The idea of having International Museum Day first surfaced in 1951 during a meeting called ‘Crusade for Museums’ organized by ICOM, the resolution for International Museum Day (IMD) was adopted in 1977 during the ICOM General Assembly in Moscow.
