Jacinda Ardern announced her resignation as the Prime Minister of New Zealand.

  • New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern will step down in February. Ms Ardern will also not contest the 14 October general election.
  • The prime minister told reporters that 7th February would be his last day in office.
  • Ms Jacinda Ardern became the world’s youngest female head of government when she was elected Prime Minister in 2017 at the age of 37.
  • The ruling New Zealand Labor Party’s vote for a new leader will take place on 22nd January, with the party’s leader being prime minister until the next general election.
