- President Draupadi Murmu administered the oath of office to Justice Chandrachud as the 50th Chief Justice of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
- He succeeds Justice UU Lalit, who retired on 8th November.
- Born in 1959, Justice Chandrachud was appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of India in May 2016.
- Prior to this, he served as the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court.
