Manpreet Kaur broke National Record in Shotput, in a 4 year Doping Ban Comeback

After returning to competition last year after a 4 years doping ban, Manpreet Kaur broke her own national record to head into the limelight on the 2nd day of the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships here on 11th June 2022.

31-year-old Kaur, who was handed a 4 years ban from July 2017 after testing positive on four occasions that year, threw an iron ball to a distance of 18.06 meters in her fourth attempt. She became the 1st Indian woman to cross 18 meters in shot put.

Kaur’s earlier national record was 17.96m in 2015. Kaur has breached the Athletics Federation of India’s qualifying standard of 17.76m for the upcoming Commonwealth Games. Kaur had recorded a massive performance of 18.86m in 2017 but was wiped out of the record books after a dope flunk. The gold she had won at the 2017 Asian Championships was also stripped off.
