Nation remembers Savitri Bai Phule, the first woman teacher of modern India, on her birth anniversary on 3rd January.

  • On 3rd January, the birth anniversary of Savitri Bai Phule, the first teacher of modern India, the whole country is remembering her.
  • She was born on 3rd January 1831 in Naigaon, Maharashtra.
  • To change the status of women in the country, Savitribai along with Jyotirao established a girls’ school in Pune in 1848. Sympathizing with widows, Savitribai established a shelter in 1864 for their upliftment.
  • Savitribai opened a clinic for the plague victims in Hadapsar, Pune and it was while carrying a 10-year-old plague victim to the clinic in her arms, she contracted the disease herself. On 10th March, 1897, Savitribai Phule breathed her last.
