Every year the first week of September is celebrated as National Nutrition Week in India. The week is celebrated every year from 1st to 7th September. The objective of this week is to raise awareness among the general public about the value of healthy eating practices and proper nutrition in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The government starts programs to promote nutrition awareness throughout this week.
The theme of in 2022 is Celebrate a “World of Flavors”.
National Nutrition Week was established in 1975 by members of the American Dietetic Association (ADA), now known as the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The week was set aside to raise awareness among the general public about the importance of good nutrition and the need for an active lifestyle. Due to the positive reception from the public, the celebration of this week lasted for a full month in 1980. At that time most of the people in India were suffering from the problem of malnutrition. National Nutrition Week was 1st started in India in 1982.
