PM Modi recognizes Modhera, a village in Gujarat, as India’s first solar powered village.

  • On 9th October, PM Narendra Modi recognize Modhera, a village in Gujarat’s Mehsana district, known for its Sun Temple, as India’s first solar-powered village, An important step towards the spread of renewable energy.
  • The Sun Temple is situated on the banks of Pushpavati River in Modhera. It was built around 1026-1027 by Bhima-I of the Chalukya dynasty.
  • The project to make Modhera the first solar powered village is a joint effort of Rs 80.66 crore by the Central and State Governments.
