- Punjab & Haryana governments have agreed to name the Chandigarh International Airport after Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
- The decision was taken during a meeting between Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and Haryana Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala.
- The Punjab government has already declared 23rd March as a state holiday, the martyrdom day of great freedom fighter Bhagat Singh.
- Rs. 485 crore airport project is a joint venture of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the governments of Punjab & Haryana.
- The Punjab government had in year 2017 demanded that the airport be named “Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, Mohali”.
- In year 2016, the Haryana Legislative Assembly unanimously passed a resolution to name the Chandigarh airport after Bhagat Singh.
