- On 19 Jan 2022, Robert Lewandowski of Poland and Bayern Munich has won FIFA’s best player of 2021 award, beating Lionel Messi of Argentina & Paris Saint Germain (PSG). At the same time, Alexia Putelas,’ has been chosen, as the best player among ‘women players’.
- Apart from footballer Lionel Messi, Mohamed Salah, of Egypt & Liverpool, was also named. But Lewandowski’ took this award’ in his name.
- Poland & FC Bayern München striker Lewandowski was recognized as the best FIFA men’s player for the second year in a row.
- Senegalese shot-stopper Edouard Mendy, became the first African to win’ the award for best ‘FIFA’ men’s goalkeeper. Christiane Endler’ of Lyonnais was named the best “FIFA” women’s goalkeeper.
- Christine Sinclair, with 188 goals in 308 caps for Canada, received the Best FIFA Special Award for Women’s Football, & Cristiano Ronaldo, with 115 goals in 184 appearances for Portugal, received the Best “FIFA” Special Award for Men’s Football did .
