Saudi Arabia’s powerful Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has been appointed as Prime Minister by royal decree.
The Crown Prince, who is the heir to the throne held by King Salman, already exercises extensive powers and is seen as the day-to-day leader of the kingdom.
The royal decree to appoint him as PM was made by the Saudi Press Agency. It said King Salman would continue to preside over the cabinet meetings in which he attends.
The 37-year-old crown prince, widely known as MBS, has spearheaded Vision 2030, a state-wide plan to transform its economy & end its dependence on oil.
