Shinzo Abe, former Japan PM, Passes away in Nara

  • The Nara city fire department said Abe was under cardiopulmonary arrest before being taken to hospital.
  • Abe, the country’s longest-serving prime minister until he resigned in 2020, was helicoptered to a hospital after the attack.
  • It was the first assassination of a current or former Japanese prime minister since the days of pre-war militarism in the 1930s.
