  • The Government has increased the age limit from 21 years to 23 years for the purpose of recruitment of Agniveers for the recruitment process in 2022.

Defense Minister Shri Rajnath Singh has said on 17th June 2022 that Agniveer scheme is a golden opportunity for Indian youth to join the armed forces and serve their motherland. Shri Rajnath Singh, who is on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, said in a statement that many youths did not get the opportunity to join the Armed Forces as the recruitment process could not be streamlined for the last 2 years. He said that keeping in mind the future of the youth, the Government has increased the age limit from 21 years to 23 years for the purpose of recruitment of Agniveers for the recruitment process in 2022 on the instructions of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

After the introduction of the Agneepath scheme, the entry age for all new recruits into the Armed Forces has been fixed at 17 ½ – 21 years.
Considering the fact that recruitment has not been possible during the last 2 years, the government has decided to give one-time relaxation for the proposed recruitment cycle for 2022.
Accordingly, the upper age limit for the recruitment process under Agnipath scheme has been increased to 23 years for 2022.
