Indian Navy received two MH 60R multi-role helicopters from US on 28th July.

  • The Indian Navy received two MH 60R multi-role helicopters from the United States (US) at the Cochin International Airport on 28th July.
  • The copters were delivered by the US Air Force’s Special Air Assignment Mission flight.
  • The helicopters were part of 24 MH 60R multirole helicopters that were being procured by India from the United States at a cost of over Rs 14,000 crore.
  • The 1st 3 helicopters delivered to the US in 2021 are being used for crew training of the Indian Navy. Another helicopter will be delivered on 22nd August 2022.

International Frienship Day 2022 : 30th July

International Friendship Day is observed annually on 30th July and was 1st proposed by the World Friendship Crusade, an international civil organization, in 1958. According to the United Nations, International Day of Friendship can help promote peace and social harmony among people. Friendship Day is also celebrated on the 1st Sunday of August in India as well as in many other countries. This year it is falling on 7th August 2022.

History :

International Day of Friendship was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2011 with the idea that friendship between peoples, countries, cultures & individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities.

Significance :

International Day of Friendship is an initiative based on UNESCO’s proposal to define a culture of peace as a set of values, attitudes and behaviors that who reject violence and try to prevent conflicts by addressing their root causes with a view to solving problems.

  • Online taxi hiring service ‘Kerala Savari’ is being started by the state.
  • This is the 1st time that any state government is starting online taxi service in the country.

  • The day celebrates the immense and unique contribution of the force in maintaining the unity, integrity & sovereignty of the nation.
  • The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is the largest central armed police force in India, which works under the authority of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
  • The CRPF came into existence on 27 July 1939 as the ‘Crown Representative Police’.

PM Modi to announce 44th Chess Olympiad open in Chennai

  • PM Narendra Modi will announce the inauguration of the 44th Chess Olympiad at the grand opening ceremony to be held at JLN Indoor Stadium in Chennai on the evening of 28 July.
  • Youth Affairs & Sports Minister Anurag Thakur will also attend the event.
  • The Prime Minister also launched the 1st-ever Chess Olympiad torch relay at the Indira Gandhi National Stadium in New Delhi on 19 July.
  • The torch travelled to 75 iconic places in the country in a span of 40 days, covering a distance of about 20000 kilometres.
  • It culminated in Mahabalipuram before moving to FIDE Headquarters, Switzerland.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam 7th death aniversary : 27th July 2022

  • 27th July is the 7th death aniversary of “Missile Man of India” Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam or Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
  • Dr Kalam is appreciated for his contribution to the country’s space and science projects, while he was also instrumental in the conduct of the 1998 nuclear weapons test.
  • He is credited with the development of Agni and Prithvi missiles and has inspired generations with his tireless work for the welfare of the country.
  • He was born in 1932 in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu in a modest family, Dr Kalam joined the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) in 1958.
  • He was then inducted into the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) in 1969, where he worked as the Project Director for SLV-III, India’s 1st satellite launch vehicle.
