“Abel Prize 2022” awarded to American Mathematician Dennis P. Sullivan

The Abel prize for the year 2022 has been awarded to American Mathematician Dennis Parnell Sullivan on 23rd Mar 2022.
Mr Dennis Parnell Sullivan has been awarded “For his groundbreaking contributions to topology in its broadest sense & in particular its algebraic, geometric, dynamical aspects.”

Numerous awards won by Dennis P. Sullivan:

Mr. Dennis P. Sullivan has won numerous awards, among them the Steele Prize, the 2010 Wolf Prize in Mathematics & the 2014 Balzan Prize for Mathematics. Mr. Dennis P. Sullivan is also a fellow of the American Mathematical Society.

What is the Abel Prize?

The prize recognizes exceptional contributions to the field of mathematics and is funded by the Norwegian government and supports the recommendations of the Abel Committee, consisting of 5 internationally recognized mathematicians, the Abel Prize winners.

World Tuberculosis Day 24 March 2022

World Tuberculosis Day is celebrate on 24th March every year to create awareness among the public about the global epidemic of tuberculosis (TB) and efforts to eliminate the disease. This date marks the day in 1882 when Dr. Robert Koch announced that he had discovered the bacterium that causes TB, which opened the way for the diagnosis and treatment of the disease.

What is Tuberculosis?

Tuberculosis (TB) is a potentially serious infectious disease that primarily affects in your lungs. Tuberculosis-causing bacteria spread from person to person through tiny droplets released into the air through coughing and sneezing. Tuberculosis can also affect other parts of your body including in your kidneys, spine, brain. When TB is outside your lungs, signs and symptoms vary according to the organs involved.

UGC announces common entrance test mandatory for all Central Universities from 2022-23

Central Universities will have to use Common University Entrance Test (CUET) scores to admit students to undergraduate programmes 2022-23.

Mr Jagdesh Kumar, Chairman, UGC said that from the 2022-23 academic year, National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the CUET for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Mr. Kumar said that, the syllabus of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) will be mirrored with the Class 12 model syllabus of the NCERT. The UGC Chairman said the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) will be conducted in the first week of July 2022.

Neeraj Chopra and Mirabai Chanu wins award of “Sportstar of the year” 2022

Tokyo Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra has been awarded the ‘Sportstar of the Year (Male)’ award at the 2022 Sportstar Aces Awards, In female category Mirabai Chanu received the ‘Sportstar of the Year’ awards given on 19 March 2022 at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel in Mumbai.

The Aces Awards celebrate the spirit of excellence in sport & hope to inspire our athletes and sportspersons to continue to strive to break new records and reach new pinnacles of glory.

Miss Jiya Rai crossed Palak Strait in record time on 20 March 2022

Miss Jiya Rai, daughter of a senior sailor of the Indian Navy Mr. Madan Rai, MC-AT-ARMS II of INS Kunjali, and a student of Navy Children’s School in Mumbai, brought glory to India by swimming across the Palk Straits from Talaimannar (Sri Lanka) to Dhanushkodi (India), on 20 March 2022 a distance of 29 km, in 13 hrs 10 mins. A child with autism spectrum disorder, Miss Jiya achieved the feat at the age of 13 years and 10 months, becoming the youngest and fastest female swimmer in the world, to swim across the Palk Straits. The record was previously held by Ms. Bula Choudhary covered the distance in 13h 52m in 2004.

The event was organized by Para Swimming Federation of India (PSFI) in collaboration with several agencies including Swimming Federation of India, Sports Development Authority, Tamil Nadu and Autism Society of India. Goa Shipyard Limited provided financial sponsorship to the swimmer for the event.

Shaheed Divas 2022 : 23 March

The Nation was each year on 23rd March as Martyrs Day (Shaheed Diwas) to observed the death anniversary of the liberty fighters Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar, & Shivaram Rajguru, who laid their lives for the liberty of India. 

On 23rd March, 3 heroes of our country Bhagat Singh, Shivram Rajguru, Sukhdev Thapar were hanged by nation. These heroes fought for the welfare of the people & sacrificed their lives for this purpose. Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev became sources of inspiration for several young Indians. Hence, to pay tribute to those three revolutionaries, India has observed 23rd March as Martyrs’ Day.

Lakshya Sen wins Silver in Men’s Singles of All England Open Badminton Championship

In Badminton, On 20 March 2022 World No.1 Viktor Axelsen defeated Lakshya Sen 21-10, 21-15 with in the men’s singles final of All England Open Badminton Championship in Birmingham. Axelsen defeated Sen during a match that lasted for 53 minutes.

In the first game, Axelsen had won the 1st six points before Sen tried to shut the gap. However, the Olympic gold medallist was too precise togrther with his shot-selection as he took the first game with ease. In the second game, Sen looked slightly better but Axelsen showed great composure to sport & match.

Pankaj Advani wins his eighth title at the 19th Asian Billiards Championship 2022

Pankaj Advani (Ace Indian cueist) won his eighth title at the 19th Asian Billiards Championship 2022 in Doha, Qatar by defeating compatriot Dhruv Sitwala 6-2 on 19 March 2022.

It is Advani’s 24th international title & 8th Asian crown.

In snooker, Mr. Advani won the IBSF World Snooker Championship three times, IBSF World six-red championship twice & the IBSF World Team Cup & IBSF World Team Championship one time each. Mr. has the record number of IBSF world championships, became a snooker professional in 2012/2013.

World Happiness Report 2022: Finland 1st and India at 136th position

World Happiness Report was released on 18th March 2022, 10th Anniversary Edition of the 2022 United Nations’

Finland has topped the “World Happiness Report 2022″ for 5th continuous year.

India has improved its rank by three spots to accuqire 136th position in the United Nations’ World Happiness Report for the year 2022, which ranked 146 countries.
In 2021, India’s rank was 139.

The top 10 countries of the World Happiness Report 2022 are :

The World Happiness Report is being published by United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network since 2012 to rank countries by how happy their citizens perceive themselves to be.

World Happiness Report is based on two key ideas :

  • (1) Happiness or life evaluation measured through opinion surveys.
  • (2) Identifying key elements that determine well-being and life evaluation across countries.
