The Kashmir Files is a 2022 Indian Hindi-language drama film. written & directed by Vivek Agnihotri. Produced by Zee Studios, the film claims to be based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits during the Kashmir Insurgency in 1989–1990. It stars Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, Pallavi Joshi & Mithun Chakraborty. This film was theatrically released on 11 March 2022.
The film was a box office success, but received mixed critical reception. The cinematography and performances of the cast (especially Anupam Kher) have been pitched as compelling. But the film has faced allegations of campaigning with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the purpose of promoting prejudice against Muslims. The film was supported, publicized and granted tax-free status in several states by the BJP.
