- The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has listed Pakistan-based terrorist Abdul Rehman Makki as a global terrorist. Makki is the brother-in-law of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief and 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed.
- The proposal to declare him a terrorist was given by India in the year 2020. Since then, China had obstructed it.
- On 16th January 2023, China ended its disagreement on the proposal to declare Makki a terrorist.
- In fact, on June 16, 2022, China stopped at the last moment the joint proposal of the US and India to include Pakistani dreaded terrorist Makki in the UN Security Council’s banned list. But this time due to global pressure and a lot of evidence, China had to bow down.
Who is Abdul Rehman Makki?
Makki’s name was first heard in India when the country was rocked by dreaded attacks like 26/11. Makki was a mastermind of these attacks. In these attacks, Makki had prepared a complete plan to terrorize Mumbai with the help of Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI. It was told by the Ministry of Home Affairs in the year 2022 that 74-year-old Makki has been involved in terrorist attacks in India since 2006.
