UNSC Emergency Session on Ukraine Russia crisis : India calls for restraint

India has stressed on finding a mutually amicable solution to Ukraine Russia crisis & called on all sides to exercise restraint. During an emergency session of the UN Security Council (UNSC) convened by Ukraine along with the US & the UK, India expressed deep concern over the escalation of tensions along Ukraine’s border with Russia.

The Indian envoy reiterated that the well being of Indian citizens is the country’s priority. The emergency meeting of the UNSC was called hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he was recognizing the independence of separate regions of Donetsk and Luhansk.

Around 20000 Indian students & nationals live and study in different parts of Ukraine. India is making efforts to bring back its citizens from the country.

Why Emergency Session of UNSC ?

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced he was recognising the independence of the breakaway regions of Donetsk & Luhansk. The Donetsk & Luhansk are regions of Ukraine.

UN Secretary General issues strong statement

U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres also issued a strong statement, saying he was “greatly concerned by Russia’s decision on the status of certain areas of the Donetsk & Luhansk regions of Ukraine”.
