- The Indian Navy will commission the fifth Kalvari-class submarine Vagir on 23 January 2023, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral R Hari Kumar will be the chief guest for the ceremony.
- These submarines are being built in India by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) Mumbai in collaboration with M/s Naval Group, France.
- Four Kalvari class submarines have already been inducted into the Indian Navy.
Vagir :
Vagir will enhance the Indian Navy’s capability to advance India’s maritime interests and is capable of undertaking a variety of missions including anti-surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare, intelligence gathering, mine laying and surveillance missions.
