World Blood Donor Day 2022 : 14th June

World Blood Donor Day is observed every year on 14th June. The day is observed to promote awareness of the need for blood donation and to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for the life-saving gifts of blood. The purpose of this day is to promote regular blood donation to ensure that all individuals have an affordable and timely supply of safe blood in times of emergency need. Mexico is the host country of this Day in 2022. The global event will be held in Mexico City on 14th June 2022.

The Theme for the day is “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives”.  

History :

The World Health Organization began and declared June 14, the birth anniversary of Karl Landsteiner, as a day in 2004. Almost a year after this announcement, during the 58th Globe Health Assembly in May 2005, WHO and its 192 member states launched Blood Donor Day to encourage all nations to recognise blood donors for their selfless efforts in saving people’s lives.
