World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 2022 : 15th June

  • World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is observed every year on 15th June.
  • This Day aims to provide communities around the world with the opportunity to promote a better understanding of abuse and neglect by raising awareness of the cultural, social, economic & demographic processes affecting elderly abuse & neglect.
  • The year of 2022 theme is “Combatting Elder Abuse”.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day observed every year on 15th June. The purpose of this day is to draw attention to the effects of abuse on the elderly. It also highlight on how abuse is perpetuated and what can be done to combat it.

Theme :

The year of 2022 theme is “Combatting Elder Abuse”

In this year, WEAAD coincides with 2 important events.
The 1st is the beginning of the United Nations Decade of Healthy Aging (2021–2030). It marks the beginning of 10 years of solid, catalytic & sustained collaboration with diverse stakeholders to improve the lives of older people, their families & their communities.
The 2nd is the 20th milestone of the Second World Assembly on Aging and the 4th review and evaluation of the implementation of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Aging (MIPAA). These provide an opportunity to generate new impetus for international action to advance the old agenda.

History :

Following a request from the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (INPEA), it was officially recognized by the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution 66/127, December 2011, which 1st established the commemoration in June 2006.
