World Maritime Day 2022 : 29th September.

The International Maritime Organization celebrates World Maritime Day on the last Thursday of September. This year, it was celebrated on 29th September. The day focuses on drawing public attention to maritime safety & the marine environment. Shipping is the most efficient mode of international transportation for most goods. It provides a reliable, low-cost means of transporting goods globally that facilitates commerce and helps create prosperity among people & nations.

History :

In 1948, an international convention in Geneva passed a special convention that established the IMO, an agency under the United Nations. It was established to develop & maintain a comprehensive regulatory framework for shipping. The main objective of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) is to focus on areas such as security, environmental issues, legal issues, technical cooperation, maritime security and maritime efficiency.
