World Oceans Day :
World Oceans Day is celebrated each year on 8 June across the world. The day is celebrated to remind people of the importance of oceans & the major role they play in everyday life. The day is also observed to raise public awareness about the ocean and its resources to promote global ocean & resource sustainability. The day intends to highlight the various resources that mankind receives from the sea, as well as the various dangers faced by the ocean.

Theme of the day in 2022 “Revitalization: collective action for the ocean” 

History :
The concept of World Oceans Day was first proposed by the United Nations in 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. It was suggested that a day be observed to raise awareness about the important role of the oceans in our lives and the ways people can help protect them. Since 2002, the World Ocean Network has created support for ocean awareness programs on 8 June with the help of sponsorship from UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission. On 5 December 2008, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution to designate this day.
