The US Census Bureau said on December 29 that the world population is projected to reach 7.9 billion on New Year’s Day 2023, with 73.7 million people added since New Year’s Day 2022.
This represents an increase of 0.9% in the world population as compared to the previous year.
By the year 2025, the bureau’s international database predicts India’s population to surpass that of China, which is currently the most populous country in the world.
Formed in 1960, the Census Bureau’s international database produces estimates for more than 227 countries and territories with populations of 5,000 or more.
