World Radio Day is celebrated across the world on 13th February every year. The day is observed every year to raise awareness among the public and media about the importance of radio and to encourage access to information through radio.
The radio, invented by Italian electrical engineer Guglielmo Marconi in the 1890s, is an important means of communication to educate, entertain and inform. It is a fast, easily accessible and cheap way of reaching a large number of people including remote areas. World Radio Day is honored with special activities such as broadcasts, community events, awards, debates organized by radio stations and other organizations.

History :
During the 36th General Assembly session, the Executive Board of UNESCO requested UNESCO to declare World Radio Day. Then 13 February was accepted as World Radio Day in 2012. This date was chosen because United Nations Radio was born on February 13, 1946. Radio arrived in India in the early 20th century.
