World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) observed every year on 10th September, is organized by the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) and endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO). The overall goal of the day is to raise awareness about suicide prevention around the world. Objectives include promoting stakeholder collaboration & self-empowerment to address self-harm & suicide through preventive action.

History :
World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) was established in 2003 by the International Association for Suicide Prevention in association with the World Health Organization (WHO). Every year on 10th September the focus is on the issue, reducing stigma and raising awareness among organisations, government and the public, delivering a single message that suicide is preventable.
Significance :
According to WHO experts, the purpose of World Suicide Prevention Day is to make people realize that committing suicide is not the only way to end their problems. Everyone, such as family members, friends, co-workers, community members, teachers, religious leaders, health professionals, political officials, and governments, must show their participation and prevent suicide in their area.
