The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved a ₹2,730.13 crore ropeway project from Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district. The 12.4 km ropeway, developed under the DBFOT model, will ease the current 21-km uphill trek and enhance accessibility for 1.5–2 lakh annual pilgrims.
It will feature a Monocable Detachable Gondola (MDG) system for 10.55 km and a Tricable Detachable Gondola (3S) system for 1.85 km, with a capacity of 1,100 passengers per hour per direction. The project will also boost tourism to the nearby Valley of Flowers, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
